Walk for Life 2008 - Report

On the crisp, cold morning of Sunday 10th February 2008, CanSupport volunteers manned the Spot Registration Desk at the venue on Vinay Marg early, to welcome walkers as they arrived..
Walkers began to assemble at the Sports ground on Vinay Marg from 8 am onwards. The WALK FOR LIFE 2008 was focused on Breast Cancer, a major killer in India - hence the pink theme.
Mrs Gursharan Kaur, wife of the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh was the chief guest. Here she is is being greeted on arrival at the venue by CanSupport volunteers
The WALK FOR LIFE was well supported by the expat community of Delhi. Whole families came complete with young children and toddlers in prams, all eager to participate in a good cause
While walkers assembled at the Sports Ground, Vinay Marg and prepared for the walk, children were entertained by a clown! There was also an army bagpipe band!
Mrs Gursharan Kaur, Mrs Mulford (wife of the US Ambassador) and other diginitaries prepare to flag off the walk as marchers assemble in a huge column behind them
Over three thousand people marched sporting the pink scarves and white caps that were issued to all registered walkers. Large groups came from corporates (The Shangri-La Hotel banner can be seen) as people from all walks of life joined in
Several paraplegics in wheelchairs insisted on participating and a number of cancer patients enrolled in CanSupport's Home Care programme attended, along with their care-givers, a touching reminder of the serious purpose of the Walk
